The Story of These Tracks

Ora vi racconto una storia triste, nulla di grave, ma emblematica dell'italianità più deplorevole e fastidiosa, di cui ognuno di coloro che crede nella lealtà e nella "meritocrazia" vorrebbe ENERGICAMENTE scrollarsi di dosso!
Nel 1982, come anche prima e successivamente, il Radiocorriere TV assieme all'ARCI, alla RAI e a Multimedia, indisse un "concorso nazionale" per rock-band italiane emergenti. Per partecipare, bisognava inviare a Roma, alla sede della ERI - Radiocorriere TV, una cassetta registrata con alcuni brani e una scheda informativa + una foto, per essere valutati ed eventualmente selezionati. La selezione era prima regionale e poi nazionale. Alla fine si vinceva un contratto discografico, concerti, passaggi in radio, TV ecc. ecc. Per l'epoca era il massimo che si potesse sognare, seppur in una nazione acerba ed impreparata anche dal punto di vista critico, a qualsiasi forma di rock intellettuale o meno. Ebbene, noi, all'epoca più o meno sedici-diciottenni, ovviamente partecipammo seguendo scrupolosamente TUTTE le regole scritte sul Radiocorriere TV inviando una cassetta con 6 nostri pezzi originali, tra cui "That Old House"... sì proprio quella pubblicata su Left-To-Live dopo 34 anni!
Passarono molte settimane, forse mesi e nessuno ci contattò, nonostante fosse stata garantita nel bando del Radiocorriere una comunicazione scritta dell'avvenuto ascolto e valutazione/esclusione da parte della giuria. Non ricevendo alcuna notizia ed essendo passati 2-3 mesi, chiedemmo notizie a dei nostri amici che avevano partecipato allo stesso concorso. Il chitarrista della band amica mi suggerì di chiedere a un tal Pinco Pallino che si occupava delle selezioni dei gruppi pugliesi. Io lo contattai e gli chiesi notizie in merito alla nostra cassetta. Ebbene, parve subito chiaro che del nostro lavoro non era giunta MAI alcuna traccia da Roma e che invece molte band pugliesi avevano avuto accesso al concorso e quindi alla selezione, senza aver inviato il materiale alla ERI/Radiocorriere; per vie traverse insomma.... Naturalmente noi non fummo nemmeo presi in considerazione. Mi sentii dire roba del tipo: "Io non sapevo nulla della vostra partecipazione... se mi aveste contattato prima, forse si poteva fare qualcosa; ora è troppo tardi. Non ho idea di che fine abbia fatto la vostra cassetta... I "miei gruppi" sono stati selezionati in maniera differente, senza passare dal Radiocorriere TV".
Ebbene oggi, 17 Luglio 2020 una copia di quella famigerata cassetta è saltata fuori miracolosamente. Riascoltata con emozione risulta estremamente acerba, ma interessante. Penso che nessuno all'epoca avesse il coraggio di suonare quello che suonavamo noi, come poi è accaduto sempre anche successivamente. Oggi i Twenty Four Hours per lo meno possiedono la fama di una band storica dell'underground italico con alle spalle un grande numero di brani composti, arrangiati, registrati e pubblicati ufficialmente da varie etichette discografiche e si sono guadagnati tutto questo ESCLUSIVAMENTE CON IL LORO IMPEGNO e, lo dico ORGOGLIOSAMENTE, senza l'intervento di personaggi di questo tipo, ma grazie all'aiuto di alcuni SERI produttori che hanno creduto in loro, fra tutti Mauro Moroni di Mellow, Bernard Gueffier di Musea e Marco Lincetto di Velut Luna. Tuttavia voglio ricordare che il contributo in assoluto più importante a livello produttivo artistico è stato quello di Andrea Valfrè dello studio Magister Recording Area di Preganziol che con la sua passione ha contribuito all'evoluzione del sound e soprattutto alla qualità HI-FI delle registrazioni. In merito al lontano, vergognoso episodio, non voglio commentare, ma ritrovare questa cassetta mi ha evocato amari ricordi che non mi fanno sentire particolarmente orgoglioso di essere italiano 😔😔😔. Un giorno forse mi dedicherò al restauro e alla pubblicazione di questi 6 pezzi e li potrete ascoltare tutti

In 1982, as well as before and afterwards, the Radiocorriere TV together with ARCI, RAI and Multimedia, launched a "national competition" for emerging Italian rock bands. To participate, it was necessary to send a recorded cassette with some songs and an information sheet + a photo to Rome, to the headquarters of ERI - Radiocorriere TV, to be evaluated and possibly selected. The selection was first regional and then national. In the end we won a record deal, concerts, radio passages, TV etc. etc. For the time it was the most that one could dream of, even in an immature and unprepared nation even from a critical point of view, to any form of intellectual rock or not. Well, we, at the time more or less sixteen-eighteen, obviously participated scrupulously following ALL the rules written on Radiocorriere TV by sending a cassette with 6 of our original pieces, including "That Old House" ... yes just the one published on Left -To-Live after 34 years!
Many weeks passed, perhaps months and no one contacted us, despite the fact that a written communication of the hearing and evaluation / exclusion by the jury had been guaranteed in the announcement of the Radiocorriere. Not receiving any news and having spent 2-3 months, we asked news of our friends who had participated in the same competition. The guitarist of the friendly band suggested that I ask a certain Pinco Pallino who was in charge of the selections of the Apulian bands. I contacted him and asked him about our cassette. Well, it immediately became clear that no trace of our work had NEVER come from Rome and that instead many Apulian bands had had access to the competition and therefore to the selection, without having sent the material to ERI / Radiocorriere; in short, in short .... Of course we were not taken into consideration. I heard things like: "I didn't know anything about your participation ... if you had contacted me before, maybe something could be done; now it's too late. I have no idea what happened to your cassette ... I "my groups" have been selected differently, without going through the Radiocorriere TV ".
Well today, 17 July 2020 a copy of that notorious cassette miraculously came out. Listened with emotion it is extremely immature, but interesting. I think nobody at the time had the courage to play what we played, as it always happened afterwards. Today Twenty Four Hours at least have the reputation of a historic Italian underground band with a large number of songs composed, arranged, officially recorded and published by various record labels behind them and they have earned all this EXCLUSIVELY WITH THEIR COMMITMENT and, I say it PROUDLY, without the intervention of characters of this type, but thanks to the help of some SERIOUS producers who believed in them, among all Mauro Moroni of Mellow, Bernard Gueffier of Musea and Marco Lincetto of Velut Luna. However I want to remember that the most important contribution in terms of artistic production was that of Andrea Valfrè of the Magister Recording Area studio in Preganziol who with his passion contributed to the evolution of the sound and above all to the HI-FI quality of the recordings. As for the distant, shameful episode, I don't want to comment, but finding this tape evoked bitter memories that don't make me feel particularly proud to be Italian 😔😔😔. Maybe one day I will dedicate myself to the restoration and publication of these 6 pieces and you can listen to them all
